REMOTE RADIO HEAD

 

Remote Radio Head (RRH) development typically involves a high level of custom IP and chipset design. This converts directly to more demanding testing scenarios, thus requiring special test tools. Testing is done on multiple stages from the board bring-up to final device integration with the rest of the fronthaul network. These stages require multiple software and hardware teams with different test focus. Focus areas are the connections coming from the Baseband Unit (BBU) with CPRI or OBSAI protocol (also Ethernet based protocols are possible within 5G) and then the internal JESD204B interface that connects the radio to the ADC/DAC circuit. By generating and analyzing traffic from these two sides, the RRH can be thoroughly tested for correct functionality and performance. The JESD204B support in X-STEP™ opens new possibilities in antenna interface testing, as all tests can be done digitally.
